There is no better place to mark the unofficial end of summer than Central Ohio! There are literally thousands of Labor Day festivals, events, and celebrations, so I’ve narrowed down the list to my top 6 things to do this weekend. Let’s get started!
1. Ballet in the Park
First, BalletMet is teaming up with Columbus Parks and Rec for a night of dancing under the stars. SO DREAMY. Accompanied by Columbus Opera and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, dancers will perform scenes from both classic and modern ballets in Scioto Mile Park. The city lights will provide the perfect backdrop. Find more info here.
2. Columbus Clippers vs. Toledo
Is there a better way to celebrate the end of summer than a hometown baseball game? Nope. I have such fond memories of ringing my Columbus Clippers cow bell and eating my weight in hotdogs and nachos as a kid. The Clippers play Toledo on Saturday night at 7:15 at Huntington Park, with fireworks at the end, of course. Columbus Clippers, ring your bell!! Find more info here.
3. Greek Festival
Come for the culture, stay for the awesome food. The Anunciation’s Cathedral Greek Festival is a summer tradition, with tons to see and do, and (it cannot be overstated) EAT. Check it out all weekend at the corner of Goodale and High. Find more info here.
4. Bike the CBus 2016
Finally, this oppressive heat is scheduled to ease up this Labor Day weekend. Why not enjoy the cooler weather with a bike tour of our fair city? With four routes of varying lengths, there is something for every level of cyclist. Plus, local restaurants and shops will provide entertainment, drinks and snacks all along the way. Find more info here.
5. September 2016 Gallery Hop
If you’ve never attended a Gallery Hop in the Short North, here’s your chance. Of course, the art is amazing and interesting, but gallery hop also provides some seriously top notch people watching. Held the 1st Saturday of each month, it’s a great time to try a new restaurant, check out local shops, and enjoy a night on the town. Find more info here.
6. Ohio Cup Vintage Baseball Festival
It’s not every day that you can see an entire baseball tournament played by 19th-century rules! Come root for our own Ohio Village Muffins (cutest baseball team name EVER) as they play vintage teams from all over the US. The Ohio Village is so much fun even without this festival, and they are pulling out all the stops this Labor Day weekend. With activities for the kids, and lots of good, old-fashioned fun, this festival is a great way to spend an afternoon this weekend. Find more details here.
However you decide to celebrate Labor Day this year, we hope it’s relaxing and fun!
